On this second day of Holy Week, we continue to reflect on the Gospel narrative of the events that took place in the days leading up to Christ’s passion. Scripture tells us that on the Monday following Jesus’ triumphal entrance into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, Our Lord cleansed the temple in Jerusalem.
As He entered the temple, Jesus was filled with righteous anger upon seeing money changers and merchants exploiting the sacred space. With great zeal, Jesus overturned their tables and drove them out, declaring, “My house shall be a house of prayer, but you are making it a den of thieves” (Mt 21:13).
This act of purification is a call to examine our own hearts and remove anything that hinders true worship of God. It also foreshadows the coming sacrifice of Jesus, who will cleanse humanity from sin through His Passion, Death, and Resurrection.
On this day, we are invited to reflect on the holiness of the temple, both the physical church and our own bodies, and to renew our commitment to live with integrity, reverence, and devotion.
